Free Find - Old Wooden Fruit Boxes

My husband and I were pulling out of the garage and I saw these amazing wooden fruit boxes. I yelled "Stop!". I quickly got out of the car, ran over to the trash can area, grabbed them and told him to pop the trunk. He hesitated and I said "Please! I have an idea for these!" He gave in reluctantly and now here they are! One I left alone and put on the wall next to our computer. I added an awesome can I found at Urban Ore, an old Stravinsky record album, and two wooden birds we bought from a Tarahumara girl in Batopilas Mexico. The other I painted and glued wrapping paper on the inside and put in our bathroom.

Urban Ore - Purchase Number 2

My second purchase was this awesome record player. The top opens up to a record player, however it no longer works. I thought about painting it white and adding new fabric but friends keep telling me to leave it alone! I found these gold knobs in a box at Urban Ore and applied them. They add a nice touch . Oh, and it was $25!

Urban Ore Find - Number 1

Urban Ore is an amazing place here in Berkeley. Basically everyone dumps their salvage here and you can find incredible vintage items.

Here is my first purchase, two cir. 1950s cans from England:

My First Estate Sale Purchase

I added myself onto an estate sale website's newsletter. They sent photos of what was going to be available and my eye immediately went to these two blue birds. I had my amazing friend Gayle run down there and get them for me as I couldnt get there that weekend.

Now they sit on my windowsill and catch the light. Love them!

Project Number Two - Fabric and a Shoe Box?

I needed a pen holder and still had so extra fabric left over from my friend Gayle. So here is what I came up with. Keen Shoe Box, Scissors, 80's greatest hits, and Glue:

Project Number One - Framing A Book

This actually started out as a different project. I wanted to frame my old light blue ballerina dress from when I was little.
  • First I took a plain Ikea Frame, free fabric from my friend Gayle and lined the back of the insert board with glue.
  • Then I lined the inside of the frame with fabric. I put the dress in the frame, sealed it up and hung it on the wall.
Lets just say it was disturbing. Looked like a shrine to a lost family member. So back to the drawing board. I wanted to frame something sentimental and dug through my husband's old children's books. When I came upon "The Giving Tree" I loved the green color against the fabric.
